Focuses on a group of toddlers, most prominently Tommy, Chuckie, Phil, Lil, and Angelica, and their day-to-day lives, usually involving common life experiences that become adventures in the babies' imaginations. Adults in the series are almost always unaware of what the children are up to; however, this only provides more room for the babies to explore and discover their surroundings.

Tommy's First Birthday
Stu and Didi strive to make Tommy's first birthday a memorable one. They did, but under the wrong circumstances. Meanwhile Tommy wants to eat dog food so he can be just like Spike, eventually selling the other Rugrats on the idea.

Barbeque Story
Tommy has received his favorite toy in the whole world -- a ball. Angelica, always looking to spoil the babies' fun, takes the ball and tosses it into the neighbors' yard, resulting in the babies risking life and limb looking for it.

Waiter, There's a Baby in My Soup
Stu and Didi ended up taking Tommy to an important dinner at "Chez Ennui" with Mr. Mucklehoney (president of Mucklehoney Industries, a toy company), since Tiffany the babysitter (via telephone) and Grandpa have different plans (the babysitter's OTHER goldfish died and Grandpa was going bowling with a friend of his named Louise). Tommy, however, has plans of his own, and proceeds to get loose in the resturant kitchen, causing absolute chaos.

At the Movies
Tommy wants to see the Reptar movie, but his parents take him and the other Rugrats to the Westside Octoplex to see The Land Without Smiles (starring the Dummi Bears) instead. The Rugrats leave the Dummi Bears to go look for Reptar (showing at the same theater), leaving a path of destruction behind them.

Angelica sleeps over at Tommy's, but her desire for an open window leaves Tommy feeling ill. This results in some very bizarre dreams.

Stu and Chaz take Tommy and Chuckie to the Toy Palace and Tommy and Chuckie think it would be neat to live in the store and so they sneek away. Stu and Chaz, completely oblivious to what's going on, leave (with a doll and a monkey doll) Tommy and Chuckie in the store. Tommy and Chuckie explore the store with a lazy security guard watching wrestling. Tommy and Chuckie soon find out living in the toy store isn't so good when they get chased by a giant ape toy called "Thorg."

Paul Gatsby, the creator of the Dummi Bears, comes to dinner at the Carmicheals' house. Susie thinks that every time Paul and her father, Randy (who's the head writer for the Dummi Bears) get together, Paul buys the Carmicheals' a new house. Because of this, she and the rest of the Rugrats decide to ruin the dinner so Paul will be mad and not make the Carmicheals' move.

Meanwhile, Grandpa recovers nicely, but ends up coming down with a new disease -- the "Love Bug" -- after a nurse named Lulu brought him back to health. Taffy takes the Rugrats to a high school basketball game, where the Hornets are playing the visiting Poodles. However, Taffy ""volunteers"" herself to replace one of the cheerleaders, after one of them, her best friend Britannica, sprained their ankle, after Taffy caused their pyramid to collapse. As she does so, she leaves the Rugrats alone in the bleachers while she fills in for Britannica.

Who's Taffy?
When Taffy comes over to babysit the Rugrats, she is upset that the band will break up, all because they feel that she is affecting her performance in the band. When Taffy says, ""I'm not myself"", Angelica tries to cheer her up by dressing like Taffy. However, this created a new problem -- the Rugrats think that Angelica, wearing one of taffy's hair clips, has become Taffy; while Taffy, calling the bandmembers ""dumb babies"" over the phone, has become Angelica.
